Pilates
Mindful movement that strengthens and lengthens
I found Pilates by chance, and it has become the core of my life.
I took up Pilates after a back injury put an end to many years of running and weight training. Finding Pilates to be both therapeutic and fun, I began practicing Pilates exercises daily. In a surprisingly short amount of time, I gained a new kind of strength and ease of movement, which enabled me not only to resume running but also to better perform all the activities of daily living.
Wanting to learn more about Pilates for my own personal growth, I became certified as an instructor, which soon led to an unplanned career change. Fortunately, because I had taught cooking, English as a second language, and art throughout my working life, teaching Pilates was a natural transition for me.
After teaching Pilates classes and private sessions in studio settings and in large fitness centers for 12 years, I was ready to open my own studio. Pilates 509 is the culmination of my longtime dream: an intimate space where I am the sole proprietor and instructor, and where my clients receive 100% of my focus during their sessions.
I continue to deepen my knowledge of Pilates through ongoing training and workshops with master trainers. It gives me great pleasure to share the joy of movement from a strong and safe center.
"You are only as young as your spine is flexible."
